Department of Military History
 The Department of Military History leads and co-ordinates the instruction in military history and research work in the Finnish Defence Forces. The deparment does research in military history, and co-operates with history departments at other universities, foreign military schools, research institutes of military history, and other relevant organisations in the field of military history.
The instruction and research work focuses on the history of the art of war, the development of the post-Second World War art of war and Finland?s military history. The research focuses on the era after the Second World War and it aims to produce new knowledge in the field of the history of the art of war.
The objective of the research conducted at the department is to support the instruction of military history, strategic studies, tactics and operational art as well as the instruction of management and leadership at the National Defence University.
Several doctoral dissertations in military history have been published. Unfortunately at the moment these are all in Finnish language.
